GENTLEMEN...BEHOLD! THE WORST REPRESENTATION OF GAMING CULTURE EVER MADE!
I saw this film on Netflix's Instant Stream service (as of now, It's no longer available for Stream..thank fugg'n god!)
and The film sucks.. I'll explain!
description from IMDB "Gamers is a comedy about the lives of four slacker friends (and one obsessive interloper) living at home, -"with my parents... it's just temporary... 'til they die"- working in the real world but playing in a fantasy world. Obsessed with a role playing game called Demons, Nymphs and Dragons these "gamers" are the subject of this hilarious comedy which chronicles their journey to make it through their horrendous lives while attempting to break the world record for role playing for over 74,558 hours. The sacrifice, the obsession, the blind dedication...this is their true story"
Let me lay down all the problems with the film
- Film self-destructs 10 minutes in and through out
- The guild members are unlikeable
- Often you sympathize with Reese since the rest of the guild treats him like shit (throughout the film)
- Kevin Sherwood's character "Kevin" plays DND too seriously to the point of pissing off a black midget via a "White Wizard" costume
- Film is boring on the grounds of Problem #2
This film despite what critics tell you is no way like "This is Spinal Tap", This Mockumentary is a big steaming piece of fail in terms of humor.
Mockumentaries like This is Spinal Tap work due to the characters must be likeable, Gamers has nothing!
I suggest to steer clear of this film or better yet use it as an educational tool to teach D&D-esque roll players the Don'ts of gaming etiquette
