Wink Club (Season 1)(Jan 28, 2004 – March 26, 2004),
Director: Iginio Straffi
Italian Cartoon, Fantasy, Action, Adventure,
Key Words: Magical Girl,
Licensed American Publisher: Nickelodeon
Episodes: 26
Bloom was an ordinary girl living on earth with her bed Kiko and her parents. That is, until strange things started happening around her. A strange blond suddenly shows up out of nowhere who is being chased after a bunch of trolls. When Bloom comes to her aid, she finds she has powers dormant within her. After, the blond named Stella brings her to the fairies school Alfea in the magical dimention to start her training.
My Thoughts: This is actually a cute show though marketed to younger children. The storyline seems sort of cheesy in a couple places especially when they go into life lessons and such but the idea is pretty fun. Don’t let the very first episode push you away, it does get rather good. You just have to wait for it. The story grows from a little child show to a more teen style story. Those are the best types of shows I like; they grow up with the watcher.
The school feels like Harry Potter school, all the classes are for magic and there doesn’t seem to be any math, English, and Social Studies classes. Way to good to be true!
The recaps are actually rather stupid sounding though; they replace the words that were said in order to make sure its short. I think they shouldn’t even have a recap like that.
The animation is pretty good though somewhat edgy. The 3D does mix well with the cartoon feel of the show. Characters look really skinny, almost like they could break in half if you picked them up. Magic looks really sparkly and somewhat odd but it gets the point across.
The opening song is actually a pretty good song, not like most of the ones that were shown on 4Kids. The other music is pretty nicely done adding a bit of pop sound. The voices are alright mostly but not really into Stella’s voice. She’s pretty much cheerleader style ditsy. Also, is it an unspoken rule they have to call out their attacks? I can understand the spells are about where each girl is strong in but do we really need to hear them shout it out every time? Also, the little jokes they do tend to be a little to much sometimes.
