Jordan The Childish
Jordan The Childish has not set their biography yet
Sorry for the lateness of this installment of My Heroes. I have no excuse. Please forgive me.
Also: earlier I misspelled the world "greatest" in the title earlier. This has since been fixed.
Alright, no more of these apologies, let's talk about Booster Gold.
In the 25th Century, Michael Jon Carter was a bum. He had it all once, to be sure. He was the shining star of Gotham University's football team as the quarterback who could do no wrong. But when his father decided to re-enter his life, he was convinced to bet on his own games and throw them. He was exposed. He was disgraced. And the only job he could get was as a janitor at the Metropolis Space Museum. Then he got inspired.
He saw the exhibits of 20th Century superheroes. He saw the admiration they garnered. The fame they had. And he saw the possibilities of cashing in that came with being a superhero.
So he stole a time machine, had a robot buddy follow him and became Booster Gold, the hero protecting his past to ensure your future.
He's had his trials and tribulations thanks to his decision. He lost his twin sister Michelle, who followed him to the past and became the superheroine Goldstar. He's been seen as a joke and a braggart. He's the annoyance of several heroes in the DC Universe. And he's saved time and space several times, and nobody knows about it.
You see, during the year the Trinity (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) disappeared, Booster was approached by Rip Hunter, Time Master. He gave him a choice, help him save time from those who wish to change it and he would help him save Blue Beetle, his best friend. This was a lie, since you can't change history (fixed points in time and all that). Booster, approached the Black Beetle, goes off to save Ted Kord, but it changes history to the point of destroying the superhero community and allowing Maxwell Lord to control the world. Ted ultimately went back and sacrificed his life to save the timeline. After an persona crisis and seeing his only knowable legacy is some guy who can do the con better than he can, he becomes resentful goes to a "screw you guys, I'm goin' home" mentality. It was only the intervention of Batman, seeing that Booster tried to save Barbara Gordon from being crippled, convinces him to continue his duty.
I got into Booster thanks to the Geoff Johns/ Dan Jurgens run in the late 2000s. Ever since then I've loved the character and his world. I love that he's mostly a likable guy who sometimes acts like a jerk. He's funny guy it's hard to hate (if you're not a superhero, anyway). And as the description of his life presents, can be a hero when he puts his mind to it. He's basically an average man trying to do good in the world and make himself some money, and that's something I can respect. That's why the man called Booster Gold as one of My Heroes.
